ABOUT TIGMI

 

Tigmi Marrakech is a luxury resort located in a quaint Moroccan village. Retreat goers can spend the afternoon strolling the idyllic streets shopping or enjoying a coffee. Tigmi offers three complimentary shuttles every day to the Medina for guests to visit the souks and to take in local museums and gardens. Each shuttle holds seven guests and private taxis are plentiful for those who wish to go alone. 

Tigmi retreat includes three meals a day. Each morning will commence with a Coffee/juice/fruit mix before our yoga practice, a breakfast and lunch buffet, and a plated dinner.

All meals can be modified to meet dietary restrictions. 

Tigmi has a traditional onsite spa with various treatments. You may book your treatments upon arrival and can schedule them the day of. Treatments run from 8am-5pm.

Tigmi has two yoga shalas to practice in. Morning practices will be conducted on the beautiful rooftop verandah and evening practices will be conducted in an inside/ ventilated shala. Bring light clothes for practicing.

Guests should arrive at Tigmi no later than 5pm on April 2nd and can book departure travel after 11am on April 9th.

COVID 19 RESTRICTIONS
 

Due to Covid -19, vaccination is mandatory to enter Morocco. Retreat attendees must also present a negative PRP test taken no later than 48hours before entry. Rapid tests will be carried out for patrons at the airport before immigration. We highly recommend talking to the airline prior to departure to ensure Covid regulations. 

Before departure, Tigmi will help arrange all necessary PRP tests locally. These will be an additional cost. 

Should you become sick while in Morocco, there are medical facilities nearby and an onsite doctor.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Because Morocco is a foreign country, it is advised that you bring a filtered water bottle to ensure your safety. You may purchase filtering water bottles on Amazon.

You will need a universal adaptor for your technology. It is advised to buy a universal adaptor on Amazon.

Morocco is known for shopping. It is advised to exchange your money near Tigmi at local currency exchanges. Due to pick pocketing, it is also highly recommended to only exchange small amounts of money at a time and to not carry large amounts of money on you Please remember to tip drivers etc.

Please take time to familiarize yourself with the currency conversion prior to arrival. You are responsible for understanding this when haggling for taxis and for shopping.

Women should bring scarves, shawls, jackets to cover shoulders for safety.

DAY EXCURSIONS

This retreat offers a myriad of daily activities to do including numerous day trips to local regions. 

It is advised to look over the excursion list prior to the retreat to figure out which ones you wish to do. You may also book these trips upon arrival.

MARRAKECH CITY TOUR 

0900 – 1230 or 1500 –Daily

On this tour we enter the old medina buried within the imperial walls, where we stop at the foot of the famous Koutoubia Minaret, one of the best masterpieces of Islamic architecture. We continue to the Kasbah (fortress) where a stroll through is leads to the 16th century monument of the Saadian Tombs. Notice the wonderful Hispano-Moresque architecture and the burial ground of the Royal Family. Later at the aristocratic Bahia Palace we see the magical Moorish gardens surrounding the beautiful palace residential room. A visit to the colourful souks and a stop at the Jemaa El Fna Square. The  ancient meeting point of the trades men in North Africa. Ends the tour. ( official guide included).

GARDENS 1 EXTERIOR CITY SIGHTSEEING 

0900 – 1230 OR 1500 – 1830 Daily

Our orientation drive out side the city walls crosses the Agdal Gardens and the Royal Palace. In the Menara Gardens, we see the small Saadian pavilion mirrored in still water with the Atlas Mountains and Olive groves in the background. Sultans used this pavilion for romantic interhudes. The beautiful botanical Majorelle Gardens are privately owned by Yves St Laurent. ( guide not included).

OURIKA VALLEY – ATLAS MOUNTAINS

0930 – 1530 Daily 

This excursion begins with a picturesque drive from Marrakech to the Ourika Valley. Allowing for stops to see the  pottery at Dar Caid Ourika. On Mondays, Thursdays and Fridays we stop at the Berber souk which is a fascinating place to see the rural life and trade. The trip continue along the river, meandering through the foothills of the mountains where we see typical hamlets of haked clay and stone. You will stop to visit the inside of a Berber home. You may ask your driver to stop for lunch at the charming Kasbah Restaurant ( lunch and guide not included).

ASNI / OUIRGANE – ATLAS MOUNTAINS

0930-1530 Daily

This excursion takes us into the Atlas Mountains a vast array of vegetation.

Coloured rock cliffs. Mountains streams. Berber villages and local mountain people. The LOCAL SOUKS AT Tahanaout and Asni ( Tuesdays and Saturdays) are a wonderful opportunity to photograph traditional rural markets which are bustling with activity. For lunch we suggest la Roseraie ( lunch and guide included).

CASCADES of OUZOUD – ATLAS MOUNTAINS

0800 – 1800 Daily

This full day excursion takes visitors to one of the most beautiful natural sites in the Middle Atlas. The 300  foot (100 meters) waterfall of Ouzoud. The area of the fall is surrounded by lush vegetation as well as olive and carob trees, which are filled with monkeys at sunset .

They are walks ( but path may be slippery) offering spectacular views of cascades from the bottom, where the water hurtles thunderously down, and from the top where visitors may look into the impressively deep chasm.

A particularly picturesque area for a picnic lunch .it is possible to swim in the cascade pool (lunch and guide are not included).

TELEOUET – HIGH ATLAS MOUNTAINS

0900 – 1700 Daily 

This full day excursion takes us deep into the High Mountains, up to the top of the Thichka pass ( 6660 feet) and over the fascinating Glaoui brothers (Madani and Thami) had their main residence and stronghold. This vast complex of crumbling buildings was finally abandoned in 1956. This strange and remote Kasbah gives visitors a sense of the drama and history between 1893 and 1956, when the Pacha Glaoui and his family were at the height of their power . The fascinating events of the period and the personal style of Thami El Glaoui are brilliantly unfolded in Gavin Maxwells “ Lord of the Atlas “ The brooding romanticism of this book almost compels readers to visit Telouet ( Guide and lunch not included).

OURZAZATE-SAHARA DESERT

This full excursion starts by driving trough the fertile country side of the Haouz plain.

We drive up and across the High Atlas Mountains over the Tiz-n Tichka pass ( 6660 feet) with spectacular scenic views of mountains and semi desert terrain topped bu Kasbahs and adobe houses. On the other side of the pass a striking contrast of red clay villages and greenery leased us to the beautiful city  of Ouerzazate situated of the edge of the Sahara Desert . here we have time for lunch and a visit to the 17th century Kasbah Taourit, one of the many Glaoui Kasbah of the south. This trip is highly recommended for its scenery. (lunch and guide not included).

ESSAOUIRA – ATLANTIC COAST

A full excursion to the Atlantic coast to visit the charming town of Essaouira of Essaouira, one of the oldest and most important fishing ports in Morocco. Old Mogador was founded by Romans and inhabited by the Portuguese during the 17th century. This typical Portuguese harbour with fine examples of both Moorish and Portugueses architecture, was the setting for many scenes in Orson Wells film “ Othello “ Visitors will see the harbour, ramparts, medina, the 17th  century cannons brought from Spain, and the local artists quarter.

AMIZMIZ CIRCUIT – FOOTHILLS OF THE HIGH ATLAS

0930 – 1400 Daily

An ideal excursion for those seeking spectacular scenery, you will drive from Marrakech over the Haouz plain. Toward Lake Lalla Takerkoust, were you can stop by the water’s edge and enjoy light refreshment. You continue to Amzmiz a large Berber village built on the side of the mountains, and then take a smaller road on the most beautiful part of the journey through very remote villages ans spectacular views. The scenery and colours you will see are ever changing. ( lunch and guide not included)

AIRPORT TRANSPORTATION

Tigmi Resort is located twenty five minutes from the airport. Airport transportation and gratuity is not included in the cost of the retreat. However, private taxis can be arranged for up to four people per car depending on luggage. Airport transport costs about 250 dirham or $28 USD per person.

Please send your flight arrangements to us prior to departure to help arrange/assist with airport transfer needs.

Guests should arrive at Tigmi no later than 5pm on April 2nd.
